CHOIR AUDITION INFORMATION FOR 2008-2009 SESSIONS

Auditions are now closed for the Fall '08 (Session I). Contact the director, JODY ORRISON at (909) 630-8632 to set up an audition time for the Spring (Session II). When calling the director please be prepared to provide the age and name of your child and be sure he/she is available to rehearse on Tuesday afternoons. See the CHOIRS link for specific information about each group.

Please fill out an AUDITION APPLICATION (form 1) BEFORE you arrive. Forms 2 and 3 are for accepted members only.

Guaranteed to be the MOST relaxed audition you have ever experienced! Well, as much as that can be guaranteed. :-) An audition is for the benefit of both the singer and the director. After auditioning the singer feels more ready to begin in the choir and comfortable with working with the director. The audition also gives the director a chance to meet the singer and speak with him/her privately before the busy rehearsal season gets underway.

Audition Expectations

Preparatory Choir: Singers are to prepare a short excerpt of their favorite song. At an age appropriate level they will be vocalized, tested on pitch memory, and learn a short vocal selection. The preparatory member audition is generally a formality as no excited young singer with reasonable musical ability will be turned away.

Apprentice and Chamber Choirs: Singers are to prepare an a cappella solo of about 16 measures. They will be vocalized to determine range and voice part, tested on pitch memory, and will learn a short selection from the IVYC repertoire.

Acceptance into a choir is based first and foremost upon the desire of the student to become a more "musical" person, as well as his/he ability to "carry a tune". Tone and timbre can and will be improved on throughout the choral experience as proper breathing and diction are focused on during rehearsals.
